Teams are invited to start planning for this year's competition and information will be available during Old Fashioned Days at the Lake County Tribune office. In the past teams have built catapults from both wood and steel to launch pumpkins across the grounds during the festival. These catapults are either human or mechanical powered and the object of the contest is to see whose pumpkin flies the farthest. The winning catapult last year by the Live Onionz team was built with the springs of a snowplow and chucked a pumpkin nearly 200 feet. Cash, gift certificates and merchandise prizes are awarded to the winners. The categories for the competition are; manual powered - adult, machine powered - adult, compressed air - adult and new this year will be the student category. High School teams are invited to compete against other school teams in Pumpkin Chuckin. A donation will be made the the Physics Department of the winning high school team. Following the official Pumpkin Chuckin contest, both kids and adults throw pumpkins by hand in a pumpkin 'shot put' style contest. The contest is also co-sponsored by The Lake County Tribune of Gazette Newspapers located at 13 W. Main St., Madison. For more information stop by the office during Madison's Old Fashioned Days or call Kathy at 428-0790.
